Mahoney rights the ship with a solid night at Brighton

The 2009 Southern Ontario Sprint tour headed back to Brighton Speedway for the fourth time this season. For Dick Mahoney it was good medicine getting back to the track after battling with a sinus infection for weeks. It was also a big night for the team as a third Mahoney Racing entry was lined up for competition. Former TQ Midget driver Jim Munsie was back behind the wheel for the first time in nearly 15 years. He drove the 9J and was solid in his first outing.

For Dick the evening start out impressively as he drove his purple #79 from 8th starting position up to 5th. The finish lined him up in the 9th starting spot for the 20 lap feature event.

In the feature Dick stayed smooth and easy in attempt to just get a solid finish. That he did, as the 'Pig' piloted home to an 8th place in the final rundown. New teammate Jim Munsie also steered clear of any problems and finished 12th in the 17 car field. Rick Wilson of Joyceville claimed the feature win over Chris Jones in a late race side-by-side battle.

Dick and the #79 team will continue their 2009 campaign as the Southern Ontario Sprints head back to South Buxton Raceway on Saturday, August 22nd for Round #6. Race time in Merlin, Ontario is 7:00pm.
