 The
2009 Southern Ontario Sprint tour headed back to
Brighton Speedway for the third time this season. Dick
Mahoney and the #79 team was eager for a good finish
to help move up from their 9th place in SOS standings.
The
night started out strong for Mahoney as he finished
third in his 8 lap qualifying heat. In the redraw for
the feature Dick continued in a positive fashion by
drawing the outside pole.
The
twenty lap feature began with Jamie Collard and Dick
Mahoney on the front row, and it was Collard jumping
out to the early lead. Behind him, fourth place
starter Rick Wilson immediately went to work on his
quest for the feature win. Wilson quickly drove around
Mahoney, but slowed briefly in turns three and four,
causing Mahoney to make contact and spin, collecting
Bob Crawford in the process. Mahoney would take his
damaged machine to the pits with damaged right front
suspension. The #79 would finish 13th in the feature.
Adam West won the 20 lap affair.
Dick and the #79 team will continue their 2009
campaign as the Southern Ontario Sprints head to
Ohsweken Speedway on Friday July 17th for Round #5.
Race time in Ohsweken, Ontario is 7:45pm.
