The
Southern Ontario Sprints headlines
as of late have featured the
Mahoney family and for good
reason. On Saturday
September 26th Dick Mahoney got
back to victory lane at the South
Buxton Raceway. Just two weeks
later son Warren was battling for
his second career championship.
With another strong performance
the #25 did clinch the title
making Warren Mahoney just the
second driver in SOS history to
win two championships.
The
SOS Championship Invitational was
another great end to what was one
of the most diverse years in club
history. Several different and new
drivers found victory lane, Dick
Mahoney included.
In
the qualifying on this night Dick
got into the 25 lap A-Main through
his 8 lap heat. He finished fifth
and avoided a trip to the B-Main.
In the feature things were fast
paced as the first 23 laps were
green flag laps. A hard
crash by Craig Downie with two to
go set up a wild finish.
Adam West won the feature while
Warren Mahoney finished 9th to
clinch the title. Dick came home a
respectable 13th to wind up the
SOS season.
Up
next the Mahoney race teams will
be at the Ohsweken Speedway on
Friday and Saturday September
15/16 for the 2nd Annual Canadian
Sprint Car Nationals. |
