MAHONEY COMES CLOSE TO FIRST WIN OF THE SEASON AT OHSWEKEN

With the terrible luck that the #79 team has had all season long the July 28th stop at Ohsweken must have felt like a big relief for Dick Mahoney.

With his main chassis repaired but not yet back ready to race Dick loaded up Lefty for the SOS race at Ohsweken on Friday night. Although not the nicest looking car in the pit area the #79 was a rocket on the track. Dick came out fast and finished third in his heat behind Bob Crawford and John Riegling.

In the 20 lap A-Main he would start on the pole and lead the first 14 laps and looked well on his way to a victory.  In the closing laps however the face of the race changed dramatically. The top seven cars were all running together in a big pack. Each position changed hands numerous times every lap. The battle for the lead was a see-saw affair.  Fred Cade would finally get by Mahoney and go on for the win. Unfortunately for Dick he lost his momentum and the car seemed to go away in the final few laps. He would still manage a strong 7th place finish which helped propel him into the top ten in Southern Ontario Sprints points.

Dick Mahoney and the #79 team will have a couple of weeks before they get back into action on Friday August 11th at the Ohsweken Speedway and Saturday August 12th at the Brighton Speedway.
