RETURN TO HUMBERSTONE NOT A HAPPY ONE FOR 'THE PIG'

The Southern Ontario Sprints had a double header planned for the Canada Day Weekend but Mother Nature had other plans. Saturdays event at South Buxton Raceway was washed out completely.

The stars and cars of the SOS turned their attention to Humberstone Speedway for their first race at the Port Colborne facility in two seasons. For Dick Mahoney the night started off well but ended with problems and was a disappointing night.

In the 8 lap qualifier Dick would start on the outside of the front row and quickly jump out to the lead on the high side of turn one. Son Warren who started right behind Dick took the same line and the two were battling for the lead. The two put on a great race for a couple laps before Warren got by for good and took the heat win. Rob Pietz would sneak by Mahoney in the closing laps and Dick would have to settle for a third place finish.

In the 20 lap A Main the #79 would start on pole but he would not hold the spot for long. Apparent brake problems on the car forced Dick back through the field where he ended up with a 14th place finish. Despite the lack luster results 'The Pig' remains firmly in the top ten in SOS points sitting 7th and just 95 points back of the leader and 62 points out of the top five.

Dick Mahoney and the rest of the Southern Ontario Sprints will be back on the road on Saturday July 12th at the Brighton Speedway. For more information visit www.southernontariosprints.com
