Dick
Mahoney and the #79 team headed
back to the South Buxton Raceway
on Saturday June 23rd. It was a
night the team was looking forward
to in an attempt to get their
season back on track. In their
last start at South Buxton Dick
found his way to victory lane with
long time friend and racing legend
Jack Hewitt on hand as his
honourary crew chief.
Dick
didn't have his friend with him on
this night but once again he was
strong on the D-shaped clay oval.
In the third qualifying heat he
finished an impressive second
behind April Wilson who took a
very popular first career heat
win. The #79 solidly held back her
father Rick Wilson who finished
third.
Come
feature time Dick would start in
the 4th position. The car was
solid from the drop of the green
flag. In the end though the #79
would never take the checkers as a
last lap crash sent Dick for a
wild flip down the backstretch.
Contact with the #5 of Keith
Dempster turned Mahoney into the
wall and the rest unfolded from
there. Once again Dick walked away
okay from what was a scary looking
accident.
Dick
and the #79 team will return to
action on Saturday July 7th at the
Brighton Speedway. For
