HEAT RACE ACCIDENT ENDS NIGHT FOR MAHONEY AT OHSWEKEN

The first race at the Ohsweken Speedway for the Southern Ontario Sprints in 2007 was a night to forget for Dick Mahoney. The #79 headed into the event with high hopes but ended upside down when all was said and done.

Mahoney headed out for the third heat event on the evening. It was a heat that saw plenty of passing and action on every lap. Late in the qualifier Daryl Turford lost control of his car in the second corner. He tried to gather it up but ended up right in the path of Dick Mahoney. Dick did his best to avoild the #29 but caught the car and was airborne.

Dick walked away uninjured from the scary crash and joked that he 'had the first flip of the year out of the way'.  The #79  team was not able to repair the car for the B-main and was finished for the night. The DNF now puts Dick 18th in the SOS point standings after two events.

Dick Mahoney and the Southern Ontario Sprints return to action at Ohsweken Speedway on Friday June 8th, 2007.  Race time is 7:45pm.  Log on to http://www.southernontariosprints.com for more information!
