SEASON GETS UNDERWAY AT BRIGHTON

The Southern Ontario Sprints kicked off their 13th season at the Brighton Speedway on Saturday May 10th. It also marked the first race of the year for Dick Mahoney and the #79 race team.

It was one of those nights for 'The Pig' as upon arrival to the pit area Dick found himself stuck in the mud while trying to get their hauler into position. It seemed the rest of the evening would unfortunately follow a similar fate.

The new look #79 would start tail in the second qualifying heat on the evening. He would manage to get by Daryl Turford but was never able to work his way up through the rest of the field and finished seventh.  Come feature time Dick would roll off from the 13th start spot in the 15 car main event. The 20 lap race would nearly go green to checkers before a major pile up in corner one would bring out the red flag with 2 laps to go.  Dick had pulled off the track earlier in the feature but the red flag would allow the #79 to rejoin the field. Dick would finish out the night in 9th place several laps down.

Dick Mahoney and the rest of the Southern Ontario Sprints will be back on the road on Saturday May 31st for the first ever visit to the newly refigured Brockville Ontario Speedway.
