The Southern Ontario Sprints were set for their first
double-header of the season before the weatherman
spoiled everything. The teams were set to make their
first ever appearance at Autodrome Edelweiss on
Friday, July 9th, but rain washed away that
opportunity. Focus then shifted to Brighton Speedway
on Saturday night and a season high 20 cars were in
attendance.
Dick Mahoney and the #79 team unloaded
and looked quick off the truck. In the 8 lap qualifying
heat Dick drove to a third place finish. The top three
spot meant a chance to redraw for the feature event.
The #79 drew the third starting spot in the 20 lap
race.
In the A-Main Dick drove a solid race and
came home with a ninth place finish. The top ten
finished help move Dick into the sixth spot in the
standings just 96 markers back of point leader Glenn
Styres. Chris Jones won the race for his first career
sprint car win.
Dick Mahoney and the rest of the Southern
Ontario Sprints return to action on Saturday, August
7th as the tour once again visits Brighton Speedway.
Race time is is 7pm. For more information visit www.southernontariosprints.com
